Our Story
Some of the best ideas are born on the water—and BBOT is one of them.
Gilbert Allen has been boating since childhood. For him, the water has always been a place of peace, exploration, and freedom. Angela Allen discovered her love for boating after meeting Gilbert, and together, they embraced the lifestyle as a couple and a family.
But during one outing, they looked around and noticed something was missing people who looked like them. That moment sparked a powerful realization and planted the seed for Black Boaters of Today (BBOT).
Founded on the water, BBOT was created to build community. It’s a space where Black boaters can connect, share knowledge, and most importantly—build lasting relationships.
Today, BBOT is more than just a group—it’s a movement. A vibrant, growing community committed to representation, education, and celebration on the water. Through BBOT, Gilbert and Angela are not just navigating boats—they’re navigating change, building legacy, and inspiring others to explore life beyond the shore.
